On January 17, 2023, Chinese authorities announced that for the first time since the 1960s, the country's population in 2022 decreased by 850,000 people compared to the previous year.
India's population at the end of 2022 was 1.417 billion, five million more than China, according to Bloomberg, citing data from the World Population Review.
More than 1.411 billion people live in China, according to the National Bureau of Statistics of the People's Republic of China.
The World Population Review estimates that India's population has reached 1.423 billion as of January 18. Another research organisation, Macrotrends, claims that 1.428 billion people live in India.
