The US Department of Justice has warned Musk that his promise to raffle off $1 million every day until the election may violate the law

The US Department of Justice has warned Elon Musk's America PAC that the billionaire's initiative to raffle off $1 million every day until the presidential election among voters in swing states may violate the law, CNN reports, citing sources.

According to the channel's informed interlocutors, Musk's committee recently received a letter from the Justice Department's anti-corruption unit, which is investigating possible election-related violations. CNN is not disclosing the contents of the letter.

Musk promised to raffle off $1 million every day until the presidential election among residents of swing states who sign his petition to protect the First and Second Amendments to the US Constitution. The text of the petition was published on the America PAC website, which supports Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

Federal law criminalizes paying to vote or register to vote, but not to sign petitions, The New York Times noted. At the same time, the publication suggested that those who sign the petition could become America PAC's target for campaigning for Trump.

The US presidential election will be held on November 5. The swing states are Arizona, Michigan, Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, Wisconsin, as well as Pennsylvania, which is the most important for both Democratic and Republican candidates.

Elon Musk supports Donald Trump in the election. According to America PAC's reporting, the businessman donated $75 million to this committee - and became one of the largest donors to the Republican presidential candidate.
