Australia to ban social media for children under 16

Posted on Nov 07, 2024 / Technology / World

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that his government intends to pass a law banning children under 16 from accessing social media.

It is not yet clear how exactly this ban will be implemented, but according to the Australian prime minister, responsibility for enforcing the ban will lie with social media, not with children or their parents.

Albanese cited "thousands of complaints from concerned parents and grandparents" and said it was necessary to "put an end to a phenomenon that is harming our children."
