History of Ukraine, the country that made history in 2022

The history of Ukraine is a long and complex one, with the country having been inhabited for thousands of years and having undergone numerous changes in terms of its political and cultural identity.

The area now known as Ukraine has been settled since the Paleolithic period, and over the centuries, it has been inhabited by a number of different peoples, including the Scythians, the Goths, the Khazars, the Varangians, and the Mongols.

In the 9th and 10th centuries, the area now known as Ukraine was part of the medieval state of Kievan Rus, which was centered in the city of Kiev and which was one of the largest and most powerful states in Europe at the time. In the 13th century, Kievan Rus was invaded by the Mongols, and the area became part of the Mongol Empire.

Over the following centuries, Ukraine was dominated by a number of different powers, including the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the Ottoman Empire, and the Russian Empire. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, Ukraine was part of the Russian Empire, but it gained independence in 1917 following the Russian Revolution. However, Ukraine's independence was short-lived, and the country was subsequently annexed by the Soviet Union.

Ukraine remained part of the Soviet Union until 1991, when it declared its independence following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Since then, Ukraine has been an independent sovereign state, but it has faced numerous challenges, including economic instability, political corruption, and conflicts with Russia.
