Posted on Oct 21, 2024 / Politics

Geopolitics is the human activity of managing the global social order and stability.

The Greek word “geo” means “Earth”, and politics is the art of managing of the state, originally the city (polis in Greek). Thus geopolitics is the art of managing Earth - our spherical city, which is flying around the Sun and revolving around itself. The basis of geopolitics is the division of Earth into states - fictions created by humans, each of which has its own coat of arms, flag, anthem and language. Relationships between states and groups of states are a core element of geopolitics.

The redistribution of land, the formation of military blocs, trade, diplomacy and the "areas of interest" of each of the world powers - these are the areas of activity that make up geopolitics. Before the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, geopolitics based on the confrontation between Western democracies on the one hand and the Soviet Union and its satellites on the other. After the Soviet Union collapsed, geopolitics became polycentric, with the United States, China and the European Union playing the main roles.
